la mémoire | article 4

Je me souviens...

secrets je me souviens

This story was inspired by an interview with Christine Brachet, who arrived at Troplong Mondot in 1988 and was the property’s first non-viticultural employee.

Souvenirs Troplong Mondot

“It was joyous and simple. The château vibrated with the sound of the children running down the stairs. Everyone would gather around the table in the big kitchen for an improvised meal. And, at the end of the harvest, we would get out the guitars and start singing and dancing. Voices would come together, laughter would flow.

I also remember the difficult moments. But even in adversity we found the resources to remain smiling and to stay together. Like a family.

I remember that our ultimate goal was to make wine. And for someone, somewhere, to enjoy it, in good company. It was as simple as that.

So it’s true that times have changed.

But I keep in mind all that has been achieved. I mentally flip through the photo album. And I am delighted with what is being constructed today, which will be our children’s memory.

Whilst the property has evolved, there are things here that will never change.

The spirit remains, of course. What is remembered cannot always be seen. It is the little things that make this place different.

I will always be dazzled by the view, my eyes frozen by the infinite horizon. I will always be charmed by the smile that greets me, touched by the little attention that makes me feel unique. I will always be seduced by the beauty of the place and of its preserved nature. I will always be happy to discover the wines, vintage after vintage, and to linger over a glass, savouring the moment.

And more than anything else, I will remember this strange sensation. That of taking with me, wherever I go, a little bit of the world of Troplong Mondot. Like a memory that I will cherish forever.”
