OUR WINES

Wines with a sense of place

Every aspect of Troplong Mondot is channelled into our wines, from the natural intensity of clay tempered by fruit clarity, to the concentrated aromas complemented by the elegant precision and vibrancy imparted by the limestone. This results in bright wines of great depth, yet never forced, of great balance and finesse. Their inherent concentration is assured and revealed with quiet confidence.

Troplong Mondot wines are the true expression of the terroir

At Troplong Mondot, everything we do, in the vineyard and winery alike, is in pursuit of a single objective: to make a wine imbued with a sense of place. Our wines are a testament to the terroir and exude the spirit of celebration. The distinctive mineral signature of the soil shines through, together with the intense emotion of a strong sense of place, in all its nuances.

Our role above all else is to support the terroir through respectful, punctilious work in the vines. In a healthy vineyard, where the soils are teeming with life, the grapes take on the taste of the terroir. Next, it’s the turn of the winery team, and nothing is left to chance to retain the slightest variation in character that denotes the origin of each vineyard block. Our chosen focus is on the essentials, with the lightest touch possible in the winery. This precision approach and attention to detail provides us at blending stage with the compelling components that most reflect the nuances of the terroir. Every element assumes its rightful place without dominating the rest, in perfect harmony. This is how a sense of place is reflected in the wine.

Seeking a ‘Sense of Place’ in our wines

Winemaking at Troplong Mondot can be likened to the Chef’s creative artistry at Les Belles Perdrix restaurant. The challenge lies in retaining the identity of the ingredients – the grapes – patiently cultivated and harvested, then to conceive a recipe – the wine – which is greater than the sum of the parts.

Renovated entirely in 2021, the winery provides the ideal technical facilities to achieve this objective and ensure that each stage of the winemaking process is managed with extreme precision. Essentially, temperature is controlled to the exact degree to preserve the aromatics and retain the characteristics of each parcel at every stage: at harvesting, cold maceration and fermentation.

In these conditions, Troplong Mondot creates precise, aromatic and well-balanced wines of great restraint. Where origin and sense of place are clearly evident.

The winery is HQE certified (high environmental quality) and designed to deliver the very best in workplace ergonomics, harnessing natural light, functionality and traffic flow. Its understated form, which blends seamlessly with the local vernacular, only serves to enhance the technical facilities dedicated to the creation of fine wine. Yet the real majesty of the building nestles on the inside, in a vertiginous nod to the vines anchored deep in the terroir.

Our winemaking methods and technical decisions lay the foundations for freshness and precise fruit character, balancing the distinctive power of the terroir.
